This Unit Shifter 80s model is a modern take on the performance boards from the 1980s. I’ve taken the positive features of these older designs like the flatter rocker, flat deck and wider tail with a hip squash, and refined it into a modern shortboard. It’s got a medium entry rocker with low to medium exit rocker for a good get up and go speed. I’ve kept quite a bit of width pushed up in the nose to aid with planing and paddle power and a wider tail block with a subtle hip around the fin cluster to pivot off of. I wanted this design to grovel well in weaker surf but still be a great choice when the waves turn on.
A very good option for most waves we get here in Cornwall. I would call this my best day to day thruster in my range. order these 1-2” shorter and 1/4 – 1/2” wider than your high performance ‘good wave’ shortboard for a very forgiving all round design.
